In recent years, there has been a growing need to obtain reliable underground utility information. Unfortunately, it has become increasingly difficult to come by.
Atlas Surveying can provide our clients with Subsurface Utility Engineering, or SUE services, at all of our locations with the following quality levels: B, C, & D. Full-scope underground utility locations, including private utilities, allow our clients the ability to more accurately plan and budget for their project. SUE combines civil engineering, surveying and use of industry standard inductive utility locate equipment and Ground-Penetrating Radar (GPR) to determine the precise location of underground utilities and to mark their exact horizontal position on the ground as well as in CAD drawings.
SUE has become a routine requirement for projects, as it helps to mitigate costs associated with a project, delays in construction, as well as lowering the risk and liability that can come from a damaged utility. SUE is useful on any size project from highways, airports, and mass transit railways to site prep and building construction from the beginning concept to the finished product.
The law requires contractors to call 811 and have public utilities marked before they dig. However this service does not provide complete protection. Public utility companies only locate the facilities they own. Utilities such as electric, gas, oil, sewer, telephone, fire protection loops, and water that run beyond meters and demarcation points are considered private utilities and are never marked by One-Call locators. Atlas Surveying will verify the accuracy of 811-provided markings and meticulously locate, mark and document all private underground utilities and structures.
Atlas Surveying’s goal is to give our clients the convenience of offering both surveying and utility locating services, allowing them to have the most amount of reliable information possible to ensure the success of their projects.
