Spartanburg’s Historic Bon Haven Mansion Now Upscale Apartments

In May 2019, Spartanburg, South Carolina’s City Council entered into a development agreement with Arlington Properties to construct the Tapestry at Bon Haven apartment complex. Once the site of the historic Bon Haven mansion, the apartments are located on the corner of North Church Street and Asheville Highway in Spartanburg’s downtown region.

Tapestry at Bon Haven consists of one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes with contemporary, open floor plans. The complex features a sports pub, billiard room, fitness center, spin room, and coffee café. The 6-acre site has been designed with an abundance of green space, an expansive lawn, and a dining garden. The community’s outdoor amenities include a resort-style pool, outdoor cabana and kitchen, and a poolside pavilion with fireplace, TV, and seating area. Being sensitive to the historic nature of the property, Arlington Properties incorporated the home’s remaining elements by fashioning well and tea houses and preserving as many of the property’s redwoods as possible.

In 2020, Atlas Surveying, Inc.’s Greenville office was subcontracted by Arlington Properties to complete surveying services for the project. Layout of all buildings, as well as the clubhouse, sidewalks, and pool were performed. Foundation as-builts and platting of all buildings was also provided. In 2021, Atlas Surveying was again contracted to Arlington Properties to complete an ALTA survey.

Spartanburg Mayor Junie White states that the new complex will “open up the downtown. It’ll bring in more interest.” Councilwoman Erica Brown says that she “applaud[s] the developer, who…plans to maintain a piece of the foundation of the property so that it’s historical significance can be recognized. It will provide a more welcoming gateway into downtown. First impressions matter.”

Tapestry at Bon Haven was completed in 2021.
